A homeless man has been living in a supermarket for over a year. During the day, he hides in the vents where he sleeps, and in the night, when the supermarket is closed, he goes out to enjoy what the store has to offer. One night, Robert, a former supermarket security officer, gets in the way of his peaceful life, by deciding to also ”move in” in the store. Seeing how he worked in the surveillance department, he knows how to turn off the alarms and security cameras. The homeless man carefully accepts a new acquaintance and thus solves his solitude problem.
Nemanja Becanovic made his debut with the film ‘’The Ascent’’ which premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival in 2011. According to ‘’Cineuropa’’ Editor Domenico La Porta, ‘’The Ascent’’ was the third best European film that year. ‘’Supermarket’’, his second feature, tackles consumerism and dehumanization of the society with subtlety and irony. He graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Cetinje and he works as a professor at the University Donja Gorica.
