Biography

Michelangelo Messina is the founder and Artistic Director of the Ischia Film Festival, one of Europe’s leading festivals dedicated to the relationship between cinema and landscape. A film critic affiliated with the Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean (FEDEORA), he is also a member of the European Film Academy (EFA). Journalist, filmmaker, and author, Messina is internationally recognized as the creator of the concept of Film-Induced Tourism (Cineturismo®) in Italy. Since 2003, he has promoted the dialogue between cinema, cultural heritage, and territorial identity through conferences, publications, and international initiatives. Over the years, he has collaborated with renowned filmmakers, institutions, and film commissions worldwide, contributing to the development of audiovisual culture and destination promotion. His work has established the Ischia Film Festival as a unique international platform where cinema becomes a powerful tool for storytelling, cultural exchange, and the enhancement of places.
