From August 22 to 28, Herceg Novi will be the center of the regional and European film scene this year—the host city of the 39th Herceg Novi Montenegro Film Festival, the largest film festival in Montenegro and one of the most significant in Southeast Europe.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for August 22, when guests from the world of film will walk the red carpet beneath the Tora, followed by the official Festival opening ceremony at Kanli Kula.
During the seven festival days, audiences can expect an exciting program under the slogan “All the Colors of Film”: the latest regional film productions, a selection of the best titles from European cinema, documentaries from around the world, student films, new TV series, as well as a program dedicated to the film industry—Montenegro Film Rendezvous.
Introducing the visual identity of the 39th edition
Screenings will, as in previous years, be held at several iconic locations in Herceg Novi, which become open-air cinemas during the Festival—the fortresses of Kanli Kula and Forte Mare, Mića Pavlović Square, and the garden of the House of Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić.
These very settings, along with the authentic motifs of Herceg Novi, served as inspiration for creating the main visual identity of this year’s Festival.
The foundation of the identity is the circle—a simple symbol associated with film, the lens, the eye, the frame, the sun, and projection. Within the circles, images and colors of the festival unfold: details of the city, summer, and film.
Film Industry Days at the Festival for the third time
The selector of the feature film competition program is journalist and film critic Vuk Perović, the selector of the documentary film competition program is director Vladimir Perović, while the selector of the student competition program is director Sara Stijović. The program editor for TV Niches is dramatist and screenwriter Stefan Bošković.
Special emphasis at the 39th edition will be placed on professional development and networking of film professionals, through a rich industry program that the Festival is implementing in partnership with the Film Centre of Montenegro.
As part of the program, the third edition of the Film Industry Days Montenegro Film Rendezvous will be held, the Female Filmmakers workshop, organized by the Film Centre of Montenegro with the support of the French Embassy and the French Institute in Montenegro, as well as the EAVE Producers Workshop, which is being implemented within the RE-ACT program, which Montenegro joined this year. Part of the industry program will also be the acting talent development program, which the Film Centre of Montenegro is implementing with the support of the British Council.
The program will also include the FRAME project Info Day (IPA Montenegro – Albania – Italy), panels of the Creative Europe – MEDIA program, masterclasses, as well as an Info Day dedicated to the development of television series.
All programs aimed at developing the Montenegrin and regional film industry will be held from August 22 to 28 at Park Hall.
The patrons of the 39th Herceg Novi Montenegro Film Festival are the Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro and the Municipality of Herceg Novi, while the executive producer is the Public Cultural Institution Herceg-fest.
