A small Inuit community in Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland) faces the transformation of its sea ice caused by climate change. Interviews projected onto icebergs are interspersed with scenes in which young island residents carve words in the Kalaallisut language into the sea ice, denoting elements of their slowly disappearing winter environment. Are we witnessing the beginning of sikoqqinngisaannassooq: a future without sea ice?
Adam Sebire studied documentary filmmaking at national film schools in Australia and Cuba. As an artist and director, his work primarily focuses on the theme of climate change. After opening his solo exhibition at the Galleri Svalbard in March 2020, he remained trapped in northern Norway for a full 18 months due to border closures. Today, he is one of approximately four million residents of the Arctic Circle.
