In the hope of creating a better life, 6-year-old Maja and her parents leave Yugoslavia for Denmark, leaving behind Maja’s two older brothers with the promise they will join once the family is settled. But the new country proves difficult and unfamiliar, and the family struggles to adapt to a new language, culture, and way of life.
Marijana JANKOVIC (1982, Montenegro) is a Danish actress and filmmaker. She graduated from the Danish National School of Performing Arts in 2006 and has since established herself as one of Denmark’s promising talents in both acting and filmmaking. 2018. In 2018, she made her debut as a screenwriter and filmmaker with the short film Maja (2018), which is based on her own childhood. The short film has been screened around the world at various festivals and has won awards, including Best Narrative Short Film at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019 and Best Danish Short Film at the Odense Film Festival in 2018.
