The Student Film Selection of the 39th Herceg Novi Film Festival – Montenegro Film Festival brings 30 short student films created during their studies at academies in six countries of the region.
From August 23 to 27, on the screen under the stars at Mića Pavlović Square (in front of the Music School), the audience will have the opportunity to watch 20 feature, nine documentary, and one animated film by students from academies in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Ljubljana, Skopje, and Cetinje.

“The complicated Balkan soil does not stop a young mind, determined hands, sharp ears, and a clear eye. Students managed to overcome all the problems they encountered and bring memorable stories to the screen. It is evident that they sought answers to questions about life and people, the past and the future, the heart and the soul. It is clear that they are eager for answers, angry when they do not receive them, vulnerable and tender, fierce and brave. I believe they did not find them all. However, they searched for them. And the search is what matters most. It is the beginning,” points out student program selector, director Sara Stijović.
As she points out, she has been connected to the Festival since her student days, and today, in the role of selector, she ensures that new generations of students experience the same—first screenings, recognitions and applause, first acquaintances and friendships, and future collaborations that Herceg Novi brings.
“In honor of beginnings, I invite you to spend the last week of August with youth and students. Right here, before the screen and under the stars, perhaps tonight, because of this evening, someone will be a moment closer to the goal they want to achieve, the film they want to create, the future they want to bring to life, the person they want to become. Novi, and we with it, are here to see, support, greet, and embrace,” says Stijović.
